Sindh Govt distributes free Electric Scooters to Women, Powered by OKLA Pakistan
In a historic step toward sustainable transport and women’s empowerment, the Government of Sindh distributed free electric scooters to female students and working women across the province. The initiative, powered by OKLA Pakistan, is part of the government’s broader vision to promote eco-friendly transportation and improve mobility for women.
The ceremony was held in Karachi, Chairman of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, attended as the chief guest. Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, Minister for Planning and Development, Nasir Hussain Shah, and other key political figures, were also present at the occasion. The leaders hailed the initiative as a progressive step toward tackling climate change and enhancing women’s mobility across the province.
The electric scooters being distributed are the OKLA OKT 1000W model, known for their high performance and efficiency. These two-wheelers are equipped with lithium-ion swappable batteries, offering benefits such as high energy density, fast charging, and extended lifespan. The scooters are assembled locally by OKLA Pakistan, a leading pioneer in the country’s electric vehicle manufacturing sector.The scooters are being given out entirely free of cost (FOC), making them accessible to women who may otherwise not be able to afford such a means of transport.
Chairman, PPP, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari emphasized the importance of inclusive development, stating, “Empowering women through mobility is a powerful step towards building a more progressive and equitable society.”
He also appreciated the support of KFC for partnering with the Sindh Transport Department in the Pink Scooters initiative in training women bikers and facilitating the issuance of driving licenses.
Speaking at the event, Chief Minister, Murad Ali Shah said, this was just the beginning of a broader shift towards electric mobility in the province. He mentioned future plans to expand the program and integrate more renewable energy initiatives into the public transport system.
Transport Minister, Sharjeel Memon added that “This program is not only about transportation; it’s about independence, opportunity, and our commitment to a cleaner and more inclusive Sindh.” He also highlighted the environmental benefits of switching to electric vehicles, stating that reducing reliance on fossil fuels is essential to combat climate change and urban pollution.
During the media talk Muhammad Saeed Akhtar, VP of OKLA Pakistan, said, “This is a great milestone we have achieved. It reflects the confidence in OKLA Electric Scooters and
their nationwide recognition. We are committed to providing sustainable and better mobility solutions for commuters across Pakistan.”
