The world’s largest electric and plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) manufacturer, BYD (Build Your Dreams), is rapidly advancing its operations in Pakistan, with the construction of a state-of-the-art electric vehicle (EV) and PHEV assembly plant underway in Gharo, near Karachi. Sources reveal that the plant, a key step in BYD's strategy to penetrate the Pakistani market, will produce advanced EVs and PHEVs locally, significantly enhancing the country’s automotive sector.
In tandem with the construction, BYD is actively focusing on staff training. Different batches of employees are traveling to China for specialized technical and assembling training. The training aims to equip local teams with the necessary skills to handle cutting-edge vehicle assembly processes, ensuring high production standards.
Since the announcement of BYD’s plans to establish a manufacturing presence in Pakistan, the company’s leadership has been engaged in frequent visits to local vendor facilities. In March, a notable visit to GTR Tyre, Pakistan’s largest tyre manufacturer, took place at the company’s factory in the Landhi Industrial Estate. It reflects BYD’s commitment to closely collaborating with local suppliers to ensure the success of its future venture in Pakistan.
As BYD continues to expand its footprint, the move marks a significant step toward fostering clean energy solutions and boosting the country’s automotive manufacturing capabilities.
