EDB seeks Operational Information from Electric Vehicle Assemblers

EDB Information Electric Vehicle Assemblers

The Engineering Development Board has requested that companies engaged in the assembling and manufacturing of 2/3-wheeler electric vehicles provide critical information related to their operations. The action has been taken as part of regular follow-up measures aimed at having the electric vehicle (EV) production industry in Pakistan work smoothly and effectively.

The EDB is requesting two key pieces of information from manufacturers: snapshots of their production plants in operational condition and a short documentary or video showcasing the plant in action. This information is important to assess the readiness and operational capacity of the facilities in the growing EV sector. Companies are requested to submit the requested materials as soon as possible via email.

As of September 2024, over 30 operational companies in the 2/3-wheeler EV market are active in Pakistan. More than 20 new investors entered this promising segment, depicting an increasing interest and investment in the electric vehicle industry. The government is keen on supporting the growth of this sector, which they view as a significant step toward reducing carbon emissions and promoting sustainable transportation.

This EDB request is a clear indication of the government's intent to upgrade the EV sector, ensuring that companies meet the requisite standards of operational performance. The quick reaction of these companies will further contribute toward shaping the electric mobility scenario in Pakistan.
