Car imports surge in Pakistan, exceeding $20 million in value
The upward trend of completely built-up (CBU) car imports in Pakistan. The month of June 2023 witnessed a significant surge, with a total of 1,159 cars being imported, out of which 126 were brand new. The cumulative value of these imports exceeded a staggering $20 million, reflecting the growing demand for imported vehicles in the country.
Among the imported cars, 65 were luxury vehicles, including prestigious brands like Land Cruisers, Lamborghinis, and others. This indicates a growing appetite for high-end and luxury automobiles among consumers in Pakistan. Additionally, the data revealed that 285 hybrid cars and 30 electric vehicles (EVs) from renowned manufacturers such as BMW, Audi Etron, Tesla, Mercedes, and EQC were also part of the import influx.
To further facilitate and stimulate car imports, the government has recently revised the rules pertaining to the baggage scheme. This move is expected to create a conducive environment for increased imports in the coming months, providing a boost to the automotive industry in Pakistan, in a tweet, journalist Ali Khizar highlighted.
The surge in car imports, particularly in the luxury, hybrid, and EV segments, demonstrates the evolving preferences and aspirations of Pakistani consumers. The availability of a wider range of options in the market reflects the increased purchasing power and growing awareness of eco-friendly transportation alternatives.
